“Ie” is the word which rouses many images especially when we think about houses or family. However, it is not easy to talk about “Ie” as it is related to our weaknesses. According to the origins of the word “Ie”, it is said that the upper radical of the Chinese character comes from the roof of a house. “Ie” must have been built for the purpose of offering protection to vulnerable beings but sometimes it can hold us down because of it’s fixed nature. And it’s walls which should offer protection, sometimes conceals unlawful situations. All of us have to overcome such a contradiction and we share such experiences.
Whenever we listen to the word “Ie”, we picture something in our mind but each image is completely different. Everyone is tied to their own image of “Ie”. We hope our lecture series, which examines “Ie” from different angles will give the participants an opportunity to reconsider their fixed images of it.
