"Mirror"
Outline
A mirror is a common way, in which we get to know ourselves. It expands the recognition of our own but is also the oldest tool which creates an unreal world. As J. Baltrusaitis said “Although it is a detailed science, it also deviates. It is a dreamy vision”. The phenomena of catoptrics is a well-known occurrence in the natural world. Examples include, mirage which arises from the reflection of a water surface and the refraction of light in the air. A mirror has been a source of inspiration in the fields of literature and art whilst also playing an important part in the progress of science as a technological polish.
In this lecture series, we are going to introduce how the mirror and the phenomenon of reflection have impacted science and culture in all ages as well as looking at a series of related questions.
